Keyworker Housing

Keyworkers are those people working in professions that are perceived as being invaluable to the local economy. It can be argued that many professions can fit into this category however guidance from central government has specified that the main categories of profession are the police, health workers, teachers, prison and probation service and some social services staff.

Funding has been made available across the UK to assist these specific professions under the Key Worker Living initiative. The zone agents for Surrey are Thames Valley Housing Association.

There are three different schemes that are available for Key Workers:

Key Worker Homebuy

Key Worker Homebuy is a scheme that offers equity loans to help key workers buy a home on the open market.

Key Worker Shared Ownership

Some developments of shared ownership properties are funded through Key Worker Living. The scheme enables you to buy part of a property, with a housing association owning the remaining share. Rent is paid for the share that you don’t own.
