We are holding a shared ownership promotion event on Monday 28 April 2014 between 4.00 pm and 8.00 pm  at the Council offices in Millmead, Guildford.

The event is open to anyone who is interested hearing more about the shared ownership scheme. There will be information about current vacancies, and properties to be completed at White Hart Court, Ripley from this summer and Elgin Gardens, Guildford from spring 2015.

If you attend you will be able to talk to officers about  whether shared ownership is the best option for you. We will also be able to give you advice about the cost of purchasing through the scheme.

Some housing associations will also be coming to promote shared ownership properties they own in our borough.

Flexible tenancies and tenancy strategy

The Council introduced flexible tenancies for all new tenants in January 2013.

Flexible tenancies are expected to last for five years but can be renewed for further five year periods if the tenant still needs social housing and their present home meets their family requirements.  The majority of tenancies are likely to be renewed unless the tenants circumstances have changed.  If their circumstances have changed the tenant may be asked to move to another more suitable home.  Such circumstances might be a single person living in a family sized home or a tenant with sufficient income to rent privately or buy their own home.

Tenants will have plenty of notice as reviews will be carried out 6-9 months before their tenancy is due to end and help and advice will be provided to anyone who needs it.

The introduction of flexible tenancies does not affect any existing tenants who currently hold a lifetime tenancy.
