Welcome to Guildford Homechoice, Guildford Borough Council's way of allocating council and partner housing association properties for rent and shared ownership properties for sale.
We aim to give you more choice in deciding where you want to live. Properties that are available for rent and shared ownership will be advertised each week.
You must then tell us which properties you are interested in. This process is known as bidding. You may only bid for a property if your application has been accepted onto our housing register.
If you are interested in moving to another neighbouring council area you can now bid for a small number of homes in Rushmoor, Hart and Waverley council areas through a scheme known as HomeSelecta. Flexible Tenancies and Tenancy Strategy
The Council plans to introduce flexible tenancies for any new tenants from January 2013.
Flexible tenancies are expected to last for five years but can be renewed for further five year periods if the tenant still needs social housing and their present home meets their family requirements. The majority of tenancies are likely to be renewed unless the tenants circumstances have changed. If their circumstances have changed the tenant may be asked to move to another more suitable home. Such circumstances might be a single person living in a family sized home or a tenant with sufficient income to rent privately or buy their own home.
Tenants will have plenty of notice as reviews will be carried out 6-9 months before their tenancy is due to end and help and advice will be provided to anyone who needs it.
The introduction of flexible tenancies will not affect any existing tenants who currently hold a lifetime tenancy.
