Prioritising shared ownership applications

All applications received for shared ownership will be assessed and placed in one of three bands, 1 to 3. The table below sets out the banding scheme and defines the criteria that you would need to meet to be eligible for each of the bands.

 Band 1

To release council or housing association properties
Homeless households to whom a legal duty is owed
To assist the prevention of homelessness
Applicants who have been placed in Band A for rented

 Band 2

Local residents
Households with permanent employment in the Borough
Existing low cost home ownership households who wish to transfer

 Band 3

Households who do not live or work in the Borough
Households unable to proceed swiftly with purchase of a property
Owner occupiers with accommodation suitable for their needs
Households with sufficient resources to meet their own needs

Priority within bands

Within each band applicants will be placed in date order.

Other priorities

Some shared ownership schemes, particularly new build, may require us to allocate properties to certain groups of people such as key workers. We will tell you this in the advert details. If you wish to find out more about shared ownership properties click shared ownership.
